1. Downloading SCI-Compiler
Visit the official website: www.sci-compiler.com Navigate to the Download section.
Two versions are available:
| Version | Description |
|---|---|
| Stable Release | Officially tested, stable, and bug-free (recommended for beginners) |
| Nightly Build | Frequently updated with bug fixes and experimental features |
To download, you must:
- Create or log in to a SCI-Compiler account (supports MyCaen or MyNuclearInstruments accounts)
- Enter your personal details
- Read and accept the End User License Agreement (EULA)
- Select the release and click Download
2. License Registration
SCI-Compiler requires a license to compile projects. Without a license, it only works as a project viewer.
Click Licenses on the sidebar to check the license status. If there are no valid licenses, you have three options:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Trial License | Free, valid for 30 days |
| Redeem a Coupon | Usually provided at exhibitions |
| Purchase a License | Commercial license for full access |
To redeem a coupon:
- Go to the Licenses section
- Paste your coupon code
- Click Redeem
- Once redeemed, your license will be activated
3. Installing SCI-Compiler
Run the downloaded setup file (administrator rights required).
Accept the EULA.
Choose (or confirm) the installation folder.
Click Next → Install.
Note: The installation takes about 10 minutes.
At the end of the setup, drivers and the SciSDK library will be installed. SciSDK allows communication between your PC and the hardware (Python, C#, C++).
Ensure that all drivers are installed correctly:
- Click Extract to open the driver wizard
- Click Next
- Accept the driver EULA
- Click Finish
- Repeat for all drivers
4. Activating the License in SCI-Compiler
Start SCI-Compiler from the Windows Start Menu.
Note: On first launch, it may take longer than usual.
If no license is detected:
- Open the License Manager
- Click Sign In
- Enter your email and password
- Approve the request in the Authenticator
- Select the license (trial or coupon) → click Use License
Your SCI-Compiler installation is now fully activated.
5. Creating Your First Project
From the main menu, select Example Projects.
Choose a target system (e.g., DT1260).
Select an example (e.g., Digital Discriminator).
Save the project in a folder with no spaces or special characters.
Example:
C:\SciCompiler\MyProjects
If prompted, upgrade the example to the latest version.
6. Remote Compilation
Open your project → go to Compile → Start Remote Compile, and select Yes.
SCI-Compiler uploads the project to the cloud server.
You may be asked if you want to keep a copy of your source code on the server:
- Recommended: choose Yes to enable version history (similar to Git)
Enter a commit message (e.g., “First test compile”).
The compilation process will start on the server:
- You can monitor progress in SCI-Compiler’s console
- You can also follow it on the web interface under your account
- The server uses Vivado or Quartus for FPGA compilation
Tip: You can close SCI-Compiler while compiling. The process continues in the cloud, and results can be downloaded later from the web interface.
7. Retrieving the Results
Once the compilation is complete, SCI-Compiler will notify you.
- Download the generated artifact (firmware file)
- Use the Flash Programming Tool to upload it to your board
On the web interface, you can check:
| Information | Description |
|---|---|
| Compilation status | Success or failure with error details |
| Resource usage | FPGA utilization (LUTs, registers, BRAM, DSP) |
| Error reports | Detailed synthesis and implementation logs |
| Compilation time | Total time for synthesis and implementation |
| Project history | All previous builds with version control |
Summary
You have now:
- Downloaded and installed SCI-Compiler
- Registered and activated your license
- Created and compiled your first example project
SCI-Compiler is now ready to use with your hardware.
